In honor of Marilyn Reiner, a retired science teacher who ran the high school division afternoon session a special award was created.   Marilyn elevated the High School science program at the fair to new levels. This fall, sadly, she passed away unexpectedly.  This year’s Fair was dedicated to her. The Marilyn Reiner Science in Education Award will be given out annually to the overall top score in the high school division and that student’s school and teacher. This year it went to Michelle Lustrino (student), Lakeland HS (school)  and Madeline Borgaro. (teacher)

A special award on the middle school level was created this year after Judge Edith Miler passed away from Alzheimer's.  Judge Miller brought herself from a place of poverty to a place of prominence by committing to school and education. She walked with cardboard in her shoes to go to school.  She became the first female judge to serve on the Appellate term in the Supreme Court NYS, after being the administrative judge of the Family Court of NYC for over two decades and a Criminal court justice.   The award goes to the best overall score on the middle school level, his school and his teacher. The winner of the first Judge Edith Miller Excellence in Education goes to: Jonahthan O’Hanlon (student); Edgemont Jr HS (School), Maria Winston (teacher)

The fair is done with cooperation from the Science Teachers Association of NYS (Westchester Section); the Westchester/ Putnam Technology Educators Association and the Hudson Valley Council of Technical Societies.  The fair is open to all first place winner’ grades K-12 from local science fairs in public or private schools in Westchester, Putnam or Rockland Counties, and is supported by private and corporate donations.  The 2005 Tri County Science & Technology Fair has corporate support from  Grand Sponsors: POSITIVE MORTGAGE,  INDUSTRIAL THEATER INC, MARILYN REINER SCIENCE IN EDUCATION FUND, JUDGE EDITH MILLER EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION FUND, additional support from Consumers Union, Hudson Valley Truck, Todd Newman, CPA, FUJI FILM  and STANYS Westchester.   If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation to the 2006 Tri County Science & Technology Fair please forward checks to the Putnam Children's Discovery Center  PO Box 222 Carmel, NY 10512 with a memo dedicating the funds for the Tri County Science & Technology Fair, all donations are recognized in a brochure the day of the event.  Next year's Tri County Science & Technology Fair is tentatively salted for April 29, 2006, any school in Putnam Westchester or Rockland Counties wishing to send students should contact Janice Newman (845) 276-2076 ext 201 (best time to call 9-11pm at night)
